What is millet flour?

On the other hand, millet flour can be counterproductive for dogs with hypothyroidism, as it can inhibit iodine absorption. Iodine is an important trace element for the formation of thyroid hormones, which regulate the metabolism. Millet meal should therefore only be fed to dogs with hypothyroidism after consulting a vet.

How can millet flour be fed to dogs?

Millet flour can be used in various ways for dogs. Firstly, it can be used as an ingredient for homemade dog food or dog treats. Care should be taken to ensure that millet flour does not make up more than 25 percent of the total flour and that it is combined with other gluten-free flours or starches to achieve a good consistency. For example, millet flour can be mixed with oat flour, rice flour or tapioca starch. Sufficient liquid should always be added so that the millet flour can swell well.

Millet flour can also be used as a binding agent or thickener for sauces or soups. However, you should be careful when using it, as millet flour binds very strongly and can quickly become lumpy. It is best to first mix the millet flour with a little cold water and then add it to the hot liquid, stirring constantly.
