What is gilthead sea bream?

Gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) is a fish from the sea bream family that is found in the Mediterranean, Black Sea and eastern Atlantic. It is also known as gilthead sea bream, dorade royale, orade or orata. It has an oval, silvery body with a characteristic gold-colored band between the eyes and a golden spot on each cheek. It can grow up to 70 centimetres long and weigh 2.5 kilograms.

Gilthead sea bream is a very tasty and highly prized edible fish with fine, white meat that can be eaten raw, grilled, fried, baked or steamed. It is caught with gillnets, trawls and longlines.

What are the benefits of dorado for dogs?

Seabream is a good source of high-quality protein, which is important for your dog's muscle development and regeneration. It also contains lots of healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which have an anti-inflammatory effect and support your dog's cardiovascular system, immune system, skin and coat. Sea bream is also rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements that are essential for your dog's health. These include, for example, vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron, zinc, iodine and selenium.

What are the disadvantages of gilthead seabream for dogs?

Although sea bream is a healthy fish, you should not feed it to your dog too often or too much. Like all fish, dorado can contain harmful substances such as heavy metals, dioxins or PCBs, which can accumulate in your dog's body and lead to health problems. In addition, sea bream can have bones that can injure your dog or be swallowed. Therefore, you should always clean the fish well, remove the bones and cut it into small pieces before giving it to your dog. Alternatively, you can buy sea bream in the form of fish meal or fish oil, which are already processed and no longer contain any bones.

Seabream is a tasty and nutritious fish that can bring your dog many benefits. But as with everything, the dose makes the poison. Only feed your dog dorado in moderation and pay attention to the quality and preparation.
