Do you love apple strudel and would like to share it with your four-legged friend? In this article, you'll find out what apple strudel is, how you can prepare it and what advantages and disadvantages it has for dogs.

What is apple strudel?

Apple strudel is a traditional Austrian dessert consisting of a thin pastry topped with a filling of apples, raisins, cinnamon and sugar. The dough is then formed into a roll and baked in the oven. Apple strudel is often served with whipped cream or vanilla sauce.

How do you prepare apple strudel?

There are various recipes for apple strudel, but the basic ingredients are usually flour, water, oil or butter, salt and lemon juice for the dough and apples, raisins or other dried fruit, cinnamon and sugar for the filling. You can knead the dough yourself or buy ready-made strudel dough. The filling is cut into small pieces or grated and mixed with the spices. The dough is then rolled out thinly or stretched and covered with the filling. The dough is folded in at the edges and formed into a roll. Place the strudel on a baking tray and brush with a little butter. Bake at around 180°C for 30 to 40 minutes.

What are the disadvantages of apple strudel for dogs?

Apple strudel contains some ingredients that can be harmful to dogs. Sugar is generally unhealthy for dogs, as it can lead to obesity, dental problems and diabetes. Butter or oil are also high in calories and can contribute to obesity or cardiovascular disease. Salt can increase blood pressure and lead to dehydration. Lemon juice can increase the acidity in the stomach and lead to stomach problems.

However, the biggest danger for dogs is raisins. Raisins are dried grapes that are poisonous to dogs. They can lead to kidney failure or even death. The exact dose that is harmful is not known, but just a few raisins are enough to seriously harm a dog. Therefore, you should never give your dog apple strudel with raisins.

Apple strudel is a delicious dessert for humans, but not suitable for dogs. It contains too much sugar, fat and salt as well as the dangerous ingredient raisins. If you want to do something good for your dog, give him a piece of fresh apple without seeds or a dog-friendly treat.
