Stabilizer

A "stabilizer" in dog food refers to additives that are used to maintain the texture of the food and extend its shelf life. These additives help to keep the physical properties of the food such as texture, color and moisture content stable over a longer period of time. They prevent the ingredients from segregating or breaking down, which is particularly important for moist foods or diets with specific nutrient contents.

Stabilizers can be of natural origin or produced synthetically. Examples of natural stabilizers include citric acid, vinegar and guar gum, while synthetic variants such as propylene glycol (in limited quantities and not in cat food due to toxicity) can also be used.

It is important to note that all additives, including stabilizers, used in dog food must be tested and approved by the relevant authorities for safety and efficacy. As a responsible dog owner, you should always check the ingredients list and the composition of the food to ensure that it meets your dog's nutritional and health requirements.
