Rich in fatty acids

If an ingredient in your dog's food says that it is "rich in fatty acids", it means that this ingredient contains a high proportion of fatty acids. Fatty acids are an important part of your dog's diet and can provide various health benefits.

There are different types of fatty acids, including saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Particularly important for dogs are the polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These are essential, which means that your dog's body cannot produce them itself and they must therefore be obtained from food.

Omega-3 fatty acids, which are found in fish oil, flaxseed and some other ingredients, are known for their anti-inflammatory properties. They can improve skin and coat health, contribute to heart health and have positive effects on joint health.

Omega-6 fatty acids, found in vegetable oils and animal fats, are also important for skin and coat health and play a role in the immune system.

It's important to ensure a good balance between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in your dog's diet, as an imbalance can lead to health problems. However, too much fat in general, especially saturated fat, can also lead to obesity and other health problems.

When choosing your dog's food or considering supplementing their diet with high fatty acid ingredients, you should always make sure that it is a balanced diet.
