Pear wine

A representation of Pear wine

Pear wine is a fruit wine made from pears. It has a low acidity and a light aroma. You can make pear wine yourself by fermenting pear juice with sugar, lactic acid, yeast nutrient salt and wine yeast. But what effect does pear wine have on dogs? Is it healthy or harmful for our four-legged friends? In this article, you'll find out everything you need to know about pear wine and dogs.

What is perry?

Pear wine is an alcoholic drink made from the juice of pears. The pears are first washed, crushed and pressed. The juice is then enriched with sugar to increase the alcohol content. Lactic acid is also added to regulate the acidity. Yeast nutrient salt and wine yeast are then added to the juice to start fermentation. Fermentation takes about a week and should take place at a temperature of 15°C. After fermentation, the wine is removed from the yeast and sulphurized to preserve it.

Pear wine has an alcohol content of around 6 to 7% vol. It is a light fruit wine with a mild taste. Pear wine can be drunk on its own or used as a base for other drinks. For example, it can be mixed with mineral water or sparkling wine to make a refreshing spritzer or secco.

What are the benefits of pear wine for dogs?

Pears are healthy fruits that contain lots of vitamins, minerals and fiber. They are good for dogs' digestion and immune system. Pears can also help stabilize blood sugar levels and lower cholesterol. However, these benefits only apply to fresh or dried pears, not pear wine.

Pear wine has no health benefits for dogs. On the contrary, it can even be harmful . The alcohol in pear wine can damage the liver and nervous system of dogs. In addition, the sugar in perry can lead to obesity, tooth decay and diabetes. The sulphur in pear wine can trigger allergic reactions or impair breathing.

What are the disadvantages of perry for dogs?

As already mentioned, pear wine has no positive effects on the health of dogs. It can even be dangerous if consumed in large quantities. The symptoms of alcohol poisoning in dogs are similar to those in humans: Vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, ataxia, respiratory distress, unconsciousness and, in the worst case, death.

Even if the dog only drinks small amounts of pear wine, it can have unpleasant side effects. For example, it can become drunk or aggressive. It can also get a headache or stomach ache. He may also become more susceptible to infections or parasites.

Should dogs be given pear wine?

The answer is clear: No! Pear wine is not a suitable drink for dogs. It has no nutritional value and can even be harmful. Dogs should not drink alcohol, regardless of whether it is beer, wine or schnapps. Alcohol is toxic to dogs and can lead to serious health problems.

If you want to do something good for your dog, give him fresh water or unsweetened tea instead. If you want to give him a fruit, choose one that is tolerated by dogs, such as apple, banana or melon. But make sure you remove the seeds, as these can be poisonous.

Pear wine is a delicious drink for humans, but not for dogs. Enjoy it yourself, but keep it away from your four-legged friend. That way you can be sure that you both stay healthy and happy.
