What is feta?

Feta is a soft cheese that originated in Greece and is matured in brine. It has a white color and a crumbly texture. Feta can be made from pure sheep's milk or from a mixture of sheep's and goat's milk. It has a high fat content of around 21% and a high salt content of around 1.5%. Feta also has a low lactose content of around 0.5%, which means that it contains less lactose than other dairy products.

Is feta suitable for dogs?

Feta is not toxic to dogs, like grapes or chocolate for example, but it is also not something we recommend feeding your dog. It is high in sodium and saturated fat, which can be harmful to your dog. If your dog is lactose intolerant, it's best not to give him feta.

The disadvantages of feta for dogs

• Too much sodium can causeyour dog to be too thirsty and dehydrated.It can also cause vomiting,diarrhea,high fever,tremors,depression,seizures and even death.Sodium ion poisoning is also a common side effect.

• Too much lactose can lead toyour dog to have digestive problems,such as abdominal pain,flatulence,vomiting and diarrhea.This is becausemost dogs are lactose intolerant and do not have enough enzymesto break down the lactose.

The benefits of feta for dogs

There are some nutrients in feta that are good for dogs, but you still need to be careful when giving him a little. Feta has a lot of protein and is an excellent source of calcium. Protein is important for building muscle and repairing tissues. Calcium is important for strong bones and teeth.

What should you do if your dog has eaten feta?

It's definitely not healthy if your dog has eaten feta. But what should you do next? A small amount of feta is harmless. The few crumbs your dog has licked off the floor won't have any noticeable effects. But if it was a bite of feta rather than just an accidental taste, the situation could be more serious.
