Doner kebab

A representation of Doner kebab

Doner kebab is a popular meal consisting of thinly sliced meat from a skewer, salad, vegetables and sauce in a flatbread. But is kebab also suitable for dogs? In this article, you will find out what kebab is, what ingredients it contains and what advantages and disadvantages it has for your four-legged friend.

What is kebab?

Döner is a Turkish dish consisting of meat from a spit that is turned on a vertical grill and cut with a long knife. The name kebab means "spinning meat" in Turkish. The meat can be beef, veal, lamb or chicken and is often marinated with spices such as salt, pepper, paprika, thyme and oregano.

What ingredients does kebab contain?

In addition to the meat, kebabs usually contain lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, onions and a sauce made from yogurt, garlic and herbs. All of this is stuffed into a flatbread, which is a round, flat loaf made from wheat flour. Sometimes other ingredients such as coleslaw, cheese or spicy sauces are also added.

What are the benefits of kebab for dogs?

Kebab can have some benefits for dogs if fed in moderation. The meat is a good source of protein, iron and zinc, which are important for the muscles, blood and immune system. The vegetables provide vitamins, minerals and fiber that aid digestion and strengthen the immune system. The yoghurt sauce may contain probiotic bacteria that can improve the intestinal flora.

What are the disadvantages of kebabs for dogs?

However, kebabs also have some disadvantages for dogs that you should be aware of. The meat is often very fatty and salty, which can lead to obesity, high blood pressure and heart problems. The flatbread contains gluten, which can lead to allergies or intolerances in some dogs. The sauces may contain garlic, which is toxic to dogs. In addition, hot spices or sauces can irritate the stomach or cause diarrhea.

Kebab is not a suitable food for dogs as it contains too many unhealthy or harmful ingredients. If you want to give your dog a piece of meat from the kebab from time to time, you should make sure that it is lean and unseasoned. But avoid the flatbread, vegetables and sauces, as they can do your dog more harm than good.
