Acerola powder

A representation of Acerola powder

Acerola powder is a natural source of vitamin C obtained from the acerola cherry. The acerola cherry is a small, red fruit that grows in South America and the Caribbean. It has a very high vitamin C content, which is 34 to 42 times higher than that of oranges. Vitamin C is an important antioxidant that strengthens the immune system, inhibits inflammation and protects cells from free radicals.

Why is acerola powder good for dogs?

Dogs can produce vitamin C themselves in their liver, but sometimes this amount is not enough to cover their needs. For example, stress, illness, age or environmental factors can reduce vitamin C levels in the body. It may then make sense to give your dog additional vitamin C to support his defenses and promote his health.

The advantage of acerola powder is that it contains a natural vitamin C that can be better absorbed and utilized by the body than synthetic vitamin C. Acerola powder also contains other valuable ingredients such as flavonoids, minerals and trace elements that enhance the effect of vitamin C.

How do you feed your dog acerola powder?

You can easily mix acerola powder into your dog's food. The recommended dosage depends on your dog's weight. A rule of thumb is: 1 gram of acerola powder per 10 kilograms of body weight per day. This corresponds to about two scoops. However, you should always follow the manufacturer's instructions and adjust the dosage individually.

Are there any disadvantages or side effects of acerola powder for dogs?

Acerola powder is generally well tolerated by dogs and has no known side effects. However, you should be careful not to feed too much acerola powder, as an overdose of vitamin C can lead to diarrhea or stomach problems. In addition, too much vitamin C can impair the absorption of other nutrients such as iron or copper.

If your dog has kidney disease, you should consult a vet before feeding acerola powder, as vitamin C can promote the formation of kidney stones. If your dog is taking medication, you should also find out beforehand whether there may be any interactions with vitamin C.

Acerola powder is a natural and healthy source of vitamin C for dogs that strengthens the immune system, reduces inflammation and protects cells. You can simply mix it into your dog's food and do them some good. But make sure you choose the right dosage.
