Underwater plant
If an ingredient for dog food is described as "is an underwater plant", this means that this ingredient comes from a plant that grows in water, i.e. it is an aquatic plant. Underwater plants either grow completely underwater or have parts that lie below the surface of the water. Examples of such plants are seaweed, algae, duckweed or certain types of aquatic mosses.
Underwater plants can provide various benefits to a dog's diet. They are often rich in minerals, vitamins and sometimes omega-3 fatty acids. Algae or seaweed in particular are sometimes added to dog food to supplement nutritional intake.
However, it is important to make sure that underwater plants are safe for your dog. Not all underwater plants are suitable for dogs, and some can even be poisonous. In addition, the proportion of such ingredients in the dog food should be balanced to avoid excessive intake of certain nutrients.
