Rich in salt
If an ingredient in your dog's diet says "high in salt", it means that this ingredient has a high salt content (sodium chloride). Salt is an important part of your dog's diet in small amounts as it supports vital functions such as fluid regulation, nerve function and muscle function.
However, too much salt in your dog's diet can be harmful to their health. Excessive salt intake can lead to health problems such as dehydration, increased blood pressure, kidney disease and even salt poisoning. Symptoms of excessive salt intake can include increased thirst, frequent urination, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy and, in severe cases, seizures.
It's important to keep an eye on your dog's salt intake and make sure their diet doesn't contain too much salt. Avoid regularly feeding your dog human food, which is often high in salt, and check the ingredients of store-bought dog food.
