Rich in antioxidants

If you see that an ingredient in your dog's diet is "rich in antioxidants", it means that this ingredient contains substances that can help protect your dog's cells from free radical damage. Free radicals are molecules produced by normal metabolic processes in the body, but also by external factors such as pollution, smoke and UV radiation. They can cause cell damage, which in turn can lead to various health problems.

Antioxidants are important because they can neutralize the negative effects of these free radicals. They help to strengthen the immune system, slow down the ageing process and can even help to reduce the risk of certain diseases. Common antioxidants include vitamins such as vitamin C and E, beta-carotene and certain minerals such as selenium and manganese.

In a dog's diet, antioxidants are often found in ingredients such as fresh fruit and vegetables, certain oils and some meats. It's important to note that a balanced diet is essential for your dog and antioxidants should only be a part of that diet. Excessive amounts of certain antioxidants can also have undesirable side effects.
