Binder

A binding agent in dog food is a substance that is used to hold the ingredients of a dog food together. It ensures that the food retains a solid form, whether in dry food, wet food or treats. Binders can be of vegetable, animal or synthetic origin. Examples of commonly used binders are cereal flour, potato starch or guar gum. They not only help with the structure of the feed, but can also help to control moisture and extend the shelf life of the product.
