artificial sweetener

"Artificial sweetener" means that the dog food contains a sweetener that does not occur naturally but is produced artificially. Artificial sweeteners are often used to add sweetness to products without adding calories. Examples of such sweeteners are aspartame, sucralose or saccharin. They are much sweeter than normal sugar, so only very small amounts are needed.

It is important to know that some artificial sweeteners can be harmful to dogs. For example, xylitol, a commonly used sweetener in sugar-free products, is very toxic to dogs.
