Broad beans are a type of legume also known as broad beans. They have been cultivated as a food since ancient times and have a nutty taste and a floury texture. Broad beans contain many nutrients such as protein, fiber, iron and folic acid.

You may be wondering whether or not you can feed your dog broad beans. Unfortunately, the answer is no. Broad beans are unhealthy and even poisonous for dogs!

Why are field beans harmful to dogs?

The reason is a compound called PHA (phytohaemagglutinin), which is toxic to our furry friends. PHA can cause red blood cells to clump together and lead to anemia . PHA can also disrupt digestion and lead to diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain .

Unlike other beans, which are harmful when raw but safe when cooked, broad beans are poisonous both cooked and raw! This is because PHA is not destroyed during cooking.

How can you feed your dog beans?

If you want to feed your dog beans, you should choose other varieties that contain no or only small amounts of PHA. For example, red, green and white beans are healthy for dogs because they are rich in protein and fiber.

However, you should make sure that you only give your dog cooked beans without salt or spices . Raw legumes are still harmful to dogs. You should also limit the amount of beans you give your dog, as too many can lead to flatulence, stomach ache and digestive problems .

Beans should therefore only be used as an occasional supplement to your dog's normal food.

Field beans are not a suitable ingredient for dogs. They contain a toxic compound called PHA, which can lead to serious health problems. If you want to feed your dog beans, choose other varieties and cook them well. Only give your dog small amounts of beans as a snack or side dish with their normal food.
