Split basket, also known as Schizandra or Wu Wei Zi, is a plant from the star anise family. It originates from Asia and has been used there for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine. The red berries of the plant have a sweet and sour taste and contain many valuable ingredients, such as lignans, flavonoids, vitamins and minerals.

  • lead to allergic reactions if the dog is sensitive to the plant
  • lead to gastrointestinal problems if the dog eats too much of it or is given it on an empty stomach
  • lead to interactions with other medications if the dog takes them at the same time
  • increase or decrease blood pressure if the dog suffers from cardiovascular disease
  • affect blood sugar levels if the dog suffers from diabetes

How can you use slit baskets for dogs?

Split kibbles are available in various dosage forms, such as dried berries, powder, capsules or drops. The dosage depends on the dog's size, weight and state of health. If in doubt, you should always ask a vet for advice before giving your dog split kibbles.

One possible use of split baskets for dogs is, for example

  • 1 teaspoon of dried berries or powder per 10 kg of body weight daily mixed into the food
  • or put 1 drop per kg body weight into the mouth daily

The duration of use should not be longer than four weeks at a time, after which a break of at least two weeks should be taken.
