What is oregano oil?

How can you use oregano oil for your dog?

Oregano oil is a very concentrated oil that should not be used on its own. It should always be diluted with a carrier oil such as coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil. The recommended dilution is 1 drop of oregano oil to 10 ml of carrier oil.

The dosage of oregano oil depends on the size and weight of your dog. As a rule of thumb: 1 drop of diluted oil per 5 kg body weight per day. You can either put the oil directly into your dog's mouth or mix it into their food.

Oregano oil should not be used for longer than 10 days at a time. After that, you should take a break of at least one week to avoid overdosing.

  • Blood thinning: Oregano oil can affect blood clotting and increase the risk of bleeding. This can be particularly dangerous for dogs with blood clotting disorders or dogs taking blood-thinning medication. If your dog belongs to this group, you should consult a vet before using oregano oil.
  • Interactions: Oregano oil can interact with other medications or supplements and increase or decrease their effects.
