Gummy bears are small, colorful and sweet fruit gums that are especially popular with children. But what are gummy bears actually and what effect do they have on dogs?

What are gummy bears?

Gummy bears consist mainly of gelatine, sugar, glucose syrup, flavorings and colorings. Gelatine is an animal product obtained from the bones, skin and tendons of pigs or cattle. Sugar and glucose syrup are carbohydrates that provide energy. Flavorings and colorings give gummy bears their taste and appearance.

What are the disadvantages of gummy bears for dogs?

However, gummy bears also have some negative effects on dogs. On the one hand, sugar can lead to obesity, tooth decay, diabetes and other metabolic disorders if it is fed too often or in too large quantities. On the other hand, flavorings and colorings can trigger allergies and intolerances or put a strain on the liver and kidneys. Gummy bears can also lead to digestive problems such as diarrhea or vomiting if they are not chewed well or are too large.

How much gummy bears can my dog eat?

The answer to this question depends on various factors such as the dog's weight, age, state of health and activity level. Gummy bears should only be fed as an emergency energy source at most.

 

Sugar can cause many health problems if it is fed too frequently or in excessive quantities. Flavorings and colorings can also be harmful or cause allergies. Gummy bears can also cause digestive problems if they are not chewed well or are too large.
