Cetyl palmitate is practically insoluble in water. In a narrower sense, cetyl palmitate is the ester of palmitic acid with cetyl alcohol.

Cetyl palmitate is the main component of spermaceti, a waxy substance found in the head of sperm whales. Today it is produced synthetically.
